ICD-10 as a Strategic Enabler

As of October 1, 2015, the U.S. healthcare industry will transition to the use of the ICD-10 diagnosis code set. With the number of codes expanding from about 17,000 in ICD-9 to approximately 140,000 in ICD-10, the ability to capture more detailed diagnostic information becomes available. This will facilitate better measurement of the quality, safety, and efficacy of care. By mining this new data, organizations can measure key metrics to help drive strategic initiatives within the organization.
